Backpacking Across 15 Countries — and Finding Connection in Every Corner
There’s something wildly humbling about packing your life into a backpack & suitcase and walking into the unknown.
From January to April 2025, I moved through 15 countries, countless cities, and even more layers of myself. This wasn’t just a trip — it was an unraveling and rebuilding of how I see the world and my place in it.
They say school teaches you how the world works.
Travel teaches you how people live.
Italy: Slowness Is Sacred
In Palermo, Bari, and Cefalù, I learned that slowness is sacred — espresso isn’t meant to be rushed, and neither is life. Rome and Florence whispered history in every stone, while Pisa reminded me that even what leans can still stand with grace.
Poland: Feeling History in the Silence
In Kraków, I sat with the weight of history — the kind textbooks mention but only the quiet can teach. Some lessons don’t come from lectures. They come from presence.
Morocco: A Kaleidoscope of Energy and Peace
Marrakesh buzzed with life. Mirleft gave me peace. Taghazout reminded me that the ocean has no language, yet it speaks to everyone. Every corner of Morocco holds contrast — and clarity.
The UK & Ireland: Strangers as Storytellers
In Edinburgh and Dublin, I found warmth in the cold. Strangers became stories. Conversations became lessons. Pubs became classrooms — where connection was always on tap.
Egypt: Time Stretches in Giza
Egypt showed me that time is relative. Standing before the pyramids, I realized how small we are — and how beautiful that is. History doesn’t just teach you — it invites you in.
Turkey: Finding the In-Between
Istanbul and Cappadocia blurred the lines between East and West. And in that space in-between, I found understanding. Not of politics or religion — but of people.
Central Europe: Beauty in Every Form
In Prague, Paris, and Barcelona, I saw that beauty looks different everywhere. Art isn’t just in museums — it’s in alleyway graffiti, in shared bread, in street performers singing for no one and everyone at once.
Portugal to Jordan: Wandering & Listening
Lisbon taught me how to wander.
Petra and Amman taught me how to listen — deeply, patiently, and without expectation.
The Middle East: Tradition Meets Tomorrow
Dubai and Abu Dhabi shimmered with modernity, yet held strong roots in tradition. In Riyadh, I was reminded that there’s strength in softness — and that respect, dignity, and community are values deeply woven into everyday life. The Middle East grounded me in perspective: progress doesn’t have to erase culture — it can honor it.
Tanzania: Joy Without Translation
In Zanzibar and Arusha, I experienced joy — not the kind we perform, but the kind we live. The kind that comes from being fully present. Fully human.
A Lesson Beyond Borders
Before this trip, I thought I was searching for something far away.
But the farther I went, the more I found myself — in the people, the laughter, the slowness, the moments I’ll never forget.
We dress differently.
We pray differently.
We speak differently.
But at the core, we are all storytellers looking for meaning, belonging, and love.
And that? That’s what makes the world so beautifully human.
Travel gives you what school can’t: perspective.
And that’s the kind of education that never leaves you.
